free week show tonight

January 09, 2010

escanear0002Stolen from PartyEnds.com … (which, just stole from the AV Club Austin):

The Onion AV Club Austin was kind enough to recommend tonight’s FREE PartyEnds Free Week Showcase that is going down for free at Beauty Bar.

Lookie:

“Tribute bands that pay tribute to still-active acts are a dubious enterprise, especially if those acts only have two albums and a handful of singles to pull from. Luckily for the members of Austin’s only LCD Soundsystem tribute act, All My Friends, James Murphy’s dance-rock collective hasn’t toured in a good long while, and there’s hardly a song in its small catalog that won’t keep the movement going. And who doesn’t want to see somebody who’s not Murphy (in this case, Super Lite Bike’s Chris Heckendorn) ramble his way through the hipster dick-measuring contest of “Losing My Edge”? Of course, having someone else on the bill playing nothing but the songs that taught a generation to uncross its arms robs Car Stereo (Wars) (a.k.a. Chris Rose) of one guaranteed party-starting source. Luckily there’s also Mothfight’s glitch-pop and The Laughing’s techno tribalism to keep things moving.”

Check it out with your own eyes HERE . Thanks for the apt description of the dancability and fun of tonight’s lineup!

free week

January 07, 2010

pe-fw_10_webThere is a great free week show this Saturday at the Beauty Bar featuring DJ Car Stereo (Wars), an LCD Soundsystem cover band called All MY Friends, Moth Fight and The Laughing. The shindig is sponsored by PartyEnds.com and is sure to be amazing, and at the very least free. You should go.

Free week is as good of a tradition in Austin as wearing a scarf, heavy coat and toboggan when it cracks 65 degrees outside. It is a holy time. A time of freeness and reflection on the past year. A time of peace. A time to laugh,  a time to weep.  A time to dance, a time to mourn. A time of checking out your favorite bands for free and a time of checking out bands you have never heard of … for free. God bless free week.

to tie die for

November 12, 2009

laughing fun fun fun 2009Ok, so maybe no one dumped the ashes of their dead best friend on the stage where the Laughing performed  like they did for Danzig, but the fact remains that the band played a strong Fun Fun Fun Fest set full of wailing, banging, and a loud tie die shirt that both compliments the direction of their new full length album Fever as well as gives a nod to the stereotypical festival atmosphere of yore.

Austin blogger all-star  Ultra 8201 was there to grab some snap shots, you can see the photo to the left  and many more on the site HERE!

the eyes of texas are upon us

November 02, 2009

ffffLess than a week before Fun Fun fun Fest where both the Laughing and DJ Car Stereo (Wars) were invited to do their thing in front of music fans from all over the country.  Fans who are more interested in bands that dress like Gallagher and play Metallica songs than cramming into a muddy park to try and catch a glimpse of the Dave Matthews Band.

Catch DJ Car Stereo (Wars) back in Austin from Brooklyn at 4:00 on Sunday over at the Blue stage! Afterwards he will surely be seen catching up on his Tex-Mex.  And Catch the Laughing at 12:35 Saturday over at the Orange stage!

The night before the festival, Neiliyo is playing a show (on his birthday mind you) at the Scoot Inn with our friends from Chicago the Hood Internet to kick the weekend’s shenanigans off proper. It is going to be a whirlwind I tell you what.  Get ready.

laughing love

January 03, 2009

As 2008 ends and 2009 gears up, more and more end of year lists are popping up and what do you know:  The Laughing’s name keeps appearing!  EarFarm.com named Jungle on of the Top 8 EPs of 2008 right along with Final Fantasy and Animal Collective saying:

Named one of our Top Breakout Bands for ‘08/’09, Austin’s The Laughing captures the smiling mope of The Cure and mixes it with heavy doses of primal thunder and late-career Talking Heads jungle love. It’s equally sexy and weird, catchy and danceable. Think Clap Your Hands Say Yeah mixed with TV On The Radio. Or perhaps, if David Cronenberg’s The Fly were a band, it’d be The Laughing. Decide for yourself if that sounds like something you’d like. Chances are you’ll fall in love immediately.

The Laughing also showed up on Erik Wofford’s best of the year list that was published on Austinist.com.  Erik explains “their second EP expands upon their love of all things tribal and otherworldly.”

Happy New Year and if you live in the Austin area be sure to catch the Laughing for FREE Friday January 9th at the Mohawk.

the laughing 1 of 10 to watch in 2009!

December 17, 2008

EarFarm.com advised their readers to keep an eye on the Laughing in 2009.  Last year they said the same thing about The Ting Tings, Duffy, and Dead Confederate and look at em now.  Thanks to EarFarm for endorsing the Laughing as the jam of 2009!
Check it out:

I decided long ago.”
Congrats boys- we are proud of you! (photo cred)
