DJ Car Stereo (Wars) recently got praised for the latest Artifact Workshop release Explains it All by Austin 360!. The review refers to the record (plug: limited edition hand-puff-painted physical copy available only for the cost of shipping or for free download- donations QUITE appreciated!) as “a runaway success”!
Writer Patrick Caldwell goes on to point out that the record “acts as a passionate love letter to popular music likely to trigger at least a few dozen nostalgic remembrances.” Double true!

DJ Car Stereo (Wars) is leaving the bagels and pizza by the slice of Brooklyn behind and returning to Austin for migas and BBQ this weekend as he plays at the Beauty Bar on Saturday the 19th and then again on Sunday the 20th at the Mohawk for a big Austin Music Foundation shin dig.
Recently – the new album Explains it All was featured on Say It Like Slam who hypothesized: “ that mashup mixtapes are the best workout albums. If done correctly, they are a seamless hour of party music. And if you’re anything like me, you need something upbeat to keep you going between the 2nd and 3rd mile of your run! Another (awesome) mixtape to join the ranks of Girl Talk, DJ AM and Mochi Beats is DJ Car Stereo (Wars)!”

“the track/album is going to make its way on to the speakers at more than a few parties this spring. Really you can’t give a DJ a bigger compliment.”

Neiliyo recently gave a candid and graphic interview with the Onion’s AV Club where he addressed the haters, his work ethic and a ton more. Read the whole thing HERE. This is highly recommended, especially if you like butter metaphors. Trust us. Here is an excerpt:
“[Laughs.] Yeah, if you have to call it something, call it “electro-fun” or “hyper-core.” It’s full-on personality. It’s like reading a blog in real time—it’s interactive music. I want to push people’s buttons and give them a new experience, and be a communicator as opposed to a musician. I’m a musical communicator. [Laughs.]”
A TON of great photos from the release show have been posted by the Peen Scene! Check them all out HERE!
Neiliyo’s Game Night is available on iTunes HERE.
You’ve got plans tonight. Big plans. It’s Neiliyo’s Game Night! There should be just enough time to stretch and start practicing for tonight’s contests, and we have just the link to help you do it.
Republic of Austin has a great write up about the release, plus an instructional hopscotch video for those of us that are a little rusty. Here’s what they had to say about the sound:
“Combining grinding electro with house and funk synth lines and 90’s Miami booty bass beats, this album is straight up future. Neiliyo’s flow on the album puts Prince to shame. And there’s an underlying dirty, slow jam feel to it. It’s kinda like Underworld, Salt-N-Peppa (from the “Push It” years), Jodeci, Jimmy Jam and Tom Jones got together to make a relief album to bail out Parker Brothers.”
Read the whole thing HERE. If that hopscotch video doesn’t get you pumped about tonight, I’m not sure what will.
Tonight, show off what you’ve learned at Club Deville. Doors at 9, action at 10!

We are working hard on the upcoming release of Neiliyo’s Game Night (February 27th at Club DeVille yall) and ran across some GREAT pictures of a recent set he did up in Dallas at the Hot Flash 3-year anniversary party at the Fallout Lounge. Hot Flash is THE weekend jumpoff in DFW and having Neiliyo grace their party for the first time on such a momentous occasion is saying alot. Sounds like it went so well we will be heading back up there … often! Helloooooo.com was there and had this to say:
“Dude was a refreshing and pleasant surprise that definitely needs to be booked…. weekly..”

The Austin based website Both Sides of the Mouth has a cool feature where they pose the question “what if you only have a short amount of time to acquaint yourself with a particular artist and need it to count?” It is appropriately called If you’ve only got. Well, the site was kind enough to pose the query- what if you only have 2 Minutes and 26 Seconds to get to know CUSTODIAN? They recommend Pop-A-Lock!
Check it:
“Coming in just in time to make a party out of your weekend are none other than Austinite duo CUSTODIAN. What else can you expect from a label that’s known to party? Rounding out the roster at Artifact Workshop Records – home to names you might have read on here recently like DJ Car Stereo (Wars) and Neiliyo – with another addition are Adreon Henry and Jay Bradley of CUSTODIAN. See that? All caps, so you know they’re serious. With backgrounds that sprout from performance art, Henry and Bradley bring forth a sound that’s definitively creative and unique. With these artistic roots at their backing as they press forth into a realm of dance, CUSTODIAN is one group that’s sure to throw hearty arty parties.”

Thanks to Both Sides of the Mouth for the continued support! If you would like to order the CUSTODIAN album Ultra-Fresh today we still have some Free Tshirts to give out with it while supplies last! Hop to it!
Sure, the show has passed that Onion AV Club in New York was recommending, but that doesn’t mean we can’t brag about the kind things they said. Check it :
“Once a mainstay of the Austin club scene, Car Stereo (Wars)—né Chris Rose—went from blog favorite to festival-rocking phenomenon with a well-received album (2007’s The Bandit) and a slot on the 2009 Lollapalooza lineup, playing a round of Girl Talk-with-a-broader-musical-vocabulary mash-ups that value Three Dog Night as much as Three 6 Mafia.”
See for yourself HERE.
(The day-after-Christmas show was allegedly very fun and resulted in heavy drinking with a Russian guy.)
Stolen from PartyEnds.com … (which, just stole from the AV Club Austin):
The Onion AV Club Austin was kind enough to recommend tonight’s FREE PartyEnds Free Week Showcase that is going down for free at Beauty Bar.
Lookie:
“Tribute bands that pay tribute to still-active acts are a dubious enterprise, especially if those acts only have two albums and a handful of singles to pull from. Luckily for the members of Austin’s only LCD Soundsystem tribute act, All My Friends, James Murphy’s dance-rock collective hasn’t toured in a good long while, and there’s hardly a song in its small catalog that won’t keep the movement going. And who doesn’t want to see somebody who’s not Murphy (in this case, Super Lite Bike’s Chris Heckendorn) ramble his way through the hipster dick-measuring contest of “Losing My Edge”? Of course, having someone else on the bill playing nothing but the songs that taught a generation to uncross its arms robs Car Stereo (Wars) (a.k.a. Chris Rose) of one guaranteed party-starting source. Luckily there’s also Mothfight’s glitch-pop and The Laughing’s techno tribalism to keep things moving.”
Check it out with your own eyes HERE . Thanks for the apt description of the dancability and fun of tonight’s lineup!
