neiliyo & the new sincerity

March 06, 2010

Neiliyo recently gave a candid and graphic interview with the Onion’s AV Club where he addressed the haters, his work ethic and a ton more. Read the whole thing HERE. This is highly recommended, especially if you like butter metaphors. Trust us.   Here is an excerpt:

“[Laughs.] Yeah, if you have to call it something, call it “electro-fun” or “hyper-core.” It’s full-on personality. It’s like reading a blog in real time—it’s interactive music. I want to push people’s buttons and give them a new experience, and be a communicator as opposed to a musician. I’m a musical communicator. [Laughs.]”

A TON of great photos from the release show have been posted by the Peen Scene! Check them all out HERE!

Neiliyo’s Game Night is available on iTunes HERE.

hopscotch instructionz for game night tonight

February 27, 2010

You’ve got plans tonight. Big plans. It’s Neiliyo’s Game Night! There should be just enough time to stretch and start practicing for tonight’s contests, and we have just the link to help you do it.

Republic of Austin has a great write up about the release, plus an instructional hopscotch video for those of us that are a little rusty. Here’s what they had to say about the sound:

“Combining grinding electro with house and funk synth lines and 90’s Miami booty bass beats, this album is straight up future. Neiliyo’s flow on the album puts Prince to shame. And there’s an underlying dirty, slow jam feel to it. It’s kinda like Underworld, Salt-N-Peppa (from the “Push It” years), Jodeci, Jimmy Jam and Tom Jones got together to make a relief album to bail out Parker Brothers.”

Read the whole thing HERE. If that hopscotch video doesn’t get you pumped about tonight, I’m not sure what will.

Tonight, show off what you’ve learned at Club Deville. Doors at 9, action at 10!

Neiliyo Fallout Lounge3We are working hard on the upcoming release of Neiliyo’s Game Night (February 27th at Club DeVille yall) and ran across some GREAT pictures of a recent set he did up in Dallas at the Hot Flash 3-year anniversary party at the Fallout Lounge. Hot Flash is THE weekend jumpoff in DFW and having Neiliyo grace their party for the first time on such a momentous occasion is saying alot.   Sounds like it went so well we will be heading back up there … often!  Helloooooo.com was there and had this to say:

“Dude was a refreshing and pleasant surprise that definitely needs to be booked…. weekly..”

if you’ve only got…

January 23, 2010

Custodian1BSOTMThe Austin based website Both Sides of the Mouth has a cool feature where they pose the question “what if you only have a short amount of time to acquaint yourself with a particular artist and need it to count?” It is appropriately called If you’ve only got. Well, the site was kind enough to pose the query- what if you only have 2 Minutes and 26 Seconds to get to know CUSTODIAN? They recommend Pop-A-Lock!

Check it:

Coming in just in time to make a party out of your weekend are none other than Austinite duo CUSTODIAN. What else can you expect from a label that’s known to party? Rounding out the roster at Artifact Workshop Records – home to names you might have read on here recently like DJ Car Stereo (Wars) and Neiliyo – with another addition are Adreon Henry and Jay Bradley of CUSTODIAN. See that? All caps, so you know they’re serious. With backgrounds that sprout from performance art, Henry and Bradley bring forth a sound that’s definitively creative and unique. With these artistic roots at their backing as they press forth into a realm of dance, CUSTODIAN is one group that’s sure to throw hearty arty parties.”

Thanks to Both Sides of the Mouth for the continued support! If you would like to order the CUSTODIAN album Ultra-Fresh today we still have some Free Tshirts to give out with it while supplies last! Hop to it!

three dog night 6 mafia

January 10, 2010

debbie reynoldsSure, the show has passed that Onion AV Club in New York was recommending, but that doesn’t mean we can’t brag about the kind things they said. Check it :

“Once a mainstay of the Austin club scene, Car Stereo (Wars)—né Chris Rose—went from blog favorite to festival-rocking phenomenon with a well-received album (2007’s The Bandit) and a slot on the 2009 Lollapalooza lineup, playing a round of Girl Talk-with-a-broader-musical-vocabulary mash-ups that value Three Dog Night as much as Three 6 Mafia.”

See for yourself HERE.

(The day-after-Christmas show was allegedly very fun and resulted in heavy drinking with a Russian guy.)

free week show tonight

January 09, 2010

escanear0002Stolen from PartyEnds.com … (which, just stole from the AV Club Austin):

The Onion AV Club Austin was kind enough to recommend tonight’s FREE PartyEnds Free Week Showcase that is going down for free at Beauty Bar.

Lookie:

“Tribute bands that pay tribute to still-active acts are a dubious enterprise, especially if those acts only have two albums and a handful of singles to pull from. Luckily for the members of Austin’s only LCD Soundsystem tribute act, All My Friends, James Murphy’s dance-rock collective hasn’t toured in a good long while, and there’s hardly a song in its small catalog that won’t keep the movement going. And who doesn’t want to see somebody who’s not Murphy (in this case, Super Lite Bike’s Chris Heckendorn) ramble his way through the hipster dick-measuring contest of “Losing My Edge”? Of course, having someone else on the bill playing nothing but the songs that taught a generation to uncross its arms robs Car Stereo (Wars) (a.k.a. Chris Rose) of one guaranteed party-starting source. Luckily there’s also Mothfight’s glitch-pop and The Laughing’s techno tribalism to keep things moving.”

Check it out with your own eyes HERE . Thanks for the apt description of the dancability and fun of tonight’s lineup!

CUSTODIAN= freshness at its best

December 17, 2009

peen scene pop a lockWhoo- Hoo! CUSTODIAN got some niiiiiice love from Austin’s premier dance party blog the Peen Scene. The great thing about this site is not only do they keep the town up to date on all things nightlife related, they also take a mean picture wherever they go. I heard they are in the running for an Oscar this year. Just saying…

Check out what they have to say about Pop-A-Lock:

“When I jam this new track, “Pop-A-Lock”, by Artifact Workshop artist CUSTODIAN(caps lock is a must), I don’t know whether to wil’ out or double check my car doors. Just download it and see wtf I mean. CUSTODIAN is the new project of former Single Frame member Adreon Henry and partner in crime Jen Bradley…. Anyway, the download of this mp3 is a must, shit is dance punk freshness at its best.”

CarStereoWars4More from the “admittedly old news department,” but this is too good to pass up. One of the coolest blogs coming out of Austin or anywhere for that matter is Both Sides of the Mouth. The great thing about BSOTM is the extra touch they ALWAYS take in their photographs. Everything is drawn on to some degree and then scanned into a computer. Sometimes it is simple and others it is intricate.   You will never see a regular .jpg that in all likely hood also appears on 30 other websites. Taking that extra touch makes the site a special place that manages to create a tactile realness that otherwise is hard to come by on this world wide web of ours. BSOTM dug the DJ Car Stereo Wars and Neiliyo set over Fun Fun Fun Fest and were kind enough to write down their thoughts and post a few pictures! Check the whole thing out HERE.

“Car Stereo (Wars)’ set definitely kept things going and even made sure to kick it up a few more notches while they were at it. Who knew you could throw such good dance parties with a Macbook? Chris Rose definitely does, and he took this to his favor when he ushered and mixed one hell of a dance party at Fun Fun Fun. With another local Austinite, Neiliyo, at his side to MC the proceedings, the blue stage turned into a veritable mudfest with not a single person ever caught in a moment of stagnance. Everyone was moving as the beats were flowing from the speakers without break. Never a moment of silence to be had, it was a nonstop dance party from start to finish and Neiliyo took to the crowd to assure everyone kept dancing. Rose from behind the crowd that had now formed on stage to stretch the dance party even further, would occasionally join the banter of Neiliyo to make sure he was providing us with just what we needed to keep our joints greased. No matter where you looked everyone was dancing, and the people responsible for all of this were lost in the crowd making sure to keep everything going – Rose hidden amidst the crowd on the stage; Neiliyo partying incognito with the crowd in the mud pit below. With the rain still coming down, it was wet and dirty – those responsible for the tunage being mixed by Rose woulda been proud.“

THANKS FOR THE SUPPORT BOTH SIDES OF THE MOUTH!

austin sound collaboration recap

December 11, 2009

So, this I admittedly old news, but we wanted to share some great press from Fun Fun Fun Fest regarding the DJ Car Stereo (Wars) set with Neiliyo acting as MC. Austin Sound had some nice things to say:

“Oh Chris Rose, how we’ve missed you down here in Austin since you decided to take off for the NYC. Our little burg just hasn’t rocked the dancefloors quite as hard after you left. So needless to say, having Car Stereo (Wars) mixup maelstrom sweep back into town was a welcome event, and his samples, as always, were heavy on the familiar hits expertly spun to send the crowd into maximum frenzy. The stage was packed with familiar Car Stereo (Wars) fans, though nothing quite as crazy as last year’s costumed turned. Rose was aided, however, by local MC Neiliyo, reppin’ it preppy on the mic despite the rain picking up harder and harder throughout the set. Till next time CS(W)!”

Thanks for the “shout out” Austin Sound! Click HERE for Austin Sound’s pictures from the fest!
