Neiliyo recently gave a candid and graphic interview with the Onion’s AV Club where he addressed the haters, his work ethic and a ton more. Read the whole thing HERE. This is highly recommended, especially if you like butter metaphors. Trust us. Here is an excerpt:
“[Laughs.] Yeah, if you have to call it something, call it “electro-fun” or “hyper-core.” It’s full-on personality. It’s like reading a blog in real time—it’s interactive music. I want to push people’s buttons and give them a new experience, and be a communicator as opposed to a musician. I’m a musical communicator. [Laughs.]”
A TON of great photos from the release show have been posted by the Peen Scene! Check them all out HERE!
Good gosh, people. Thank you all so much for the amazing energy and sportsmanship you demonstrated at Neiliyo’s Game Night last night. We are awestruck by your enthusiasm and the fun you brought.
We want to take time to thank all the people that made it happen. The staff of Club Deville was so accommodating in letting us turn their bar into a playground….a playground with free-flowing whiskey. Fizzy Dino Pop got us going with wild projections and funky sound. Team Fabrication proved they are some of the hardest working djs out there by keeping us dancing and smiling all night. Our new friends over at 512 Unscripted provided great coverage for the event. And we wouldn’t dream of throwing a shindig like this without our friend Leah Ross there to document it all. We also are excited that Jen fromPeen Scene turned out to photograph the shenanigans. Stay tuned…as photos and footage start rolling in, we’ll keep you posted!
Of course, we can’t forget the man of the hour. Neiliyo brought the freaking house down. There was never a doubt that Neiliyo was the man to pull an event like this off, and he did not disappoint. People danced (and hop scotched!) their asses off, sweat poured, bottles were spun, and an evening of memories was made. We wish we could accurately describe the heart and sincerity of last night’s performance, but words wouldn’t do it justice. Neiliyo, we salute you!
The biggest thanks of all goes out to all of you that came out and got your game on. Remember to download your EP (using your secret slap-bracelet link) ASAP- the link will not work forever!
It was magical to see this idea come to life. Thank you all for your continued support.
You’ve got plans tonight. Big plans. It’s Neiliyo’s Game Night! There should be just enough time to stretch and start practicing for tonight’s contests, and we have just the link to help you do it.
Republic of Austin has a great write up about the release, plus an instructional hopscotch video for those of us that are a little rusty. Here’s what they had to say about the sound:
“Combining grinding electro with house and funk synth lines and 90’s Miami booty bass beats, this album is straight up future. Neiliyo’s flow on the album puts Prince to shame. And there’s an underlying dirty, slow jam feel to it. It’s kinda like Underworld, Salt-N-Peppa (from the “Push It” years), Jodeci, Jimmy Jam and Tom Jones got together to make a relief album to bail out Parker Brothers.”
Read the whole thing HERE. If that hopscotch video doesn’t get you pumped about tonight, I’m not sure what will.
Tonight, show off what you’ve learned at Club Deville. Doors at 9, action at 10!
Internets! Tomorrow is the big day! The slap bracelets are in, the sidewalk chalk is sharpened, and we are ready for Neiliyo’s EP release Game Night. If you’re not in on this already, you can check out the details HERE.
In anticipation for tomorrow’s event, Austin is Burning interviewed Neiliyo about the new EP. As an added bonus, you can hear “Springtime,” a sweet new song recorded exclusively for Austin is Burning.
Where were you the first time you saw Neiliyo? Was it on a boat? Or maybe at a sweaty house party. Did you catch his set with DJ Car Stereo (Wars) at Lollapolooza? Or did you see their follow up performance at the muddiest Fun Fun Fun Fest in history?
We are so very excited to be partnering with one of the funnest, hardest-working, most memorable musicians in today’s Austin music scene. On Saturday, February 27th at Club DeVille, Neiliyo will release Game Night, his follow-up EP to the 2008 People Skills LP. Like everything we do here at Artifact Workshop, this release will be experiential rather than a standard jewel case. For the $8 entry fee, attendees will receive a slap bracelet designed by Austin artist Erin Hanson with a time sensitive link to download the album. Neiliyo will perform the entire EP by leading the audience in each game that the songs are based on. Austin duo Fizzy Dino Popwill start the night off, along with dj sets by the lovely Team Fabrication ladies. For Neiliyo fans old and new, this event is not to be missed.
Here is a teaser track for downloading and sharing pleasure…
We can’t wait to see you all on the 27th for a night of pure awesomeness. Shoot us an email if you have any questions, and check out more event details on facebook HERE!
Check out what the Austin Onion has to say about the big DJ Car Stereo (Wars) Valentine’s Day show this Saturday with SWISS (!!!!) and Til Were Blue or Destroy:
“Relationships are just so much extra baggage when you’re a pretty young thing. Better to spend Valentine’s Day with your true loves: swilling cheap booze and rubbing bony shoulders with fellow bo-hoes under the Beauty Bar disco ball. This Valentine’s, local supergroup Swiss seeks to reunite you with some old flames—specifically anoraks, Billy Corgan-fed angst, and other not-quite-forgotten gems from the ’90s like Semisonic’s “Closing Time.” Its covers could crash this hearts-and-chocolates shindig into wedding-band territory were it not for the combined talents of the musicians involved—past lineups have included members of Hum, The Poster Children, Mineral, and National Skyline. Mash-up cupid Car Stereo (Wars) trains his arrows on those and other bands that peaked before the dot-com bubble burst, while ‘Til We’re Blue Or Destroy wraps its broken heart in bright melodies and glittering synths.”
This is a GREAT show because anytime Swiss gets together from all corners of the country- it is a good time. No doubt….. which, is a band they very well might do an amazing cover of…
We are working hard on the upcoming release of Neiliyo’sGame Night (February 27th at Club DeVille yall) and ran across some GREAT pictures of a recent set he did up in Dallas at the Hot Flash 3-year anniversary party at the Fallout Lounge. Hot Flash is THE weekend jumpoff in DFW and having Neiliyo grace their party for the first time on such a momentous occasion is saying alot. Sounds like it went so well we will be heading back up there … often! Helloooooo.com was there and had this to say:
“Dude was a refreshing and pleasant surprise that definitely needs to be booked…. weekly..”
Read the whole thing and see all the pretty pictures HERE.

There is a great free week show this Saturday at the Beauty Bar featuring DJ Car Stereo (Wars), an LCD Soundsystem cover band called All MY Friends, Moth Fight and The Laughing. The shindig is sponsored by PartyEnds.com and is sure to be amazing, and at the very least free. You should go.
Free week is as good of a tradition in Austin as wearing a scarf, heavy coat and toboggan when it cracks 65 degrees outside. It is a holy time. A time of freeness and reflection on the past year. A time of peace. A time to laugh, a time to weep. A time to dance, a time to mourn. A time of checking out your favorite bands for free and a time of checking out bands you have never heard of … for free. God bless free week.
