runaway success

July 26, 2010

DJ Car Stereo (Wars) recently got praised for the latest Artifact Workshop release Explains it All by Austin 360!. The review refers to the record (plug: limited edition hand-puff-painted physical copy available only for the cost of shipping or for free download- donations QUITE appreciated!) as “a runaway success”!

Writer Patrick Caldwell goes on to point out that the record “acts as a passionate love letter to popular music likely to trigger at least a few dozen nostalgic remembrances.” Double true!

Sidenote:

ATTN Chicago! Neiliyo and DJ Car Stereo (Wars) are heading up to the windy city to play a Lollapalooza pre-party at the Hideout on with our good friends the Hood Internet. It is going down on August 5th, so make sure that night is open! Speaking of the Hood Internet – have you grabbed any of their summer soundtracks yet?  Here ya go : Hood x Anatomy Magazine’s Great American Mixtape and Hood x Mishka’s TRILLWAVE.

gnocchi no plan

June 09, 2010

Things have been quite busy in Artifact Workshop land but ultimately been going great! Emily is finished with her school year, and thus leaving that profession behind and ready to embark on a new one. On her last day of school her food-writing project Gnocchi No Plan (it’s an Okkervil River reference ya’ll) received internet laurels from TWO of our favorite websites! We are taking this a good sign of things to come.

The Austin American Statesmen’s online presence Austin 360 took a peak in our refrigerator for their column What’s In Your Fridge Friday. Writer  Addie Broyles stated that Emily “is as obsessed with music as she is food.”  In addition to pimping our love for garlic and local beers, the article also managed to provide some props for Neiliyo who had one of the busiest weeks ever playing a huge outdoor festival in Houston as well as opening slots at two sold out shows in Austin. He’s not finished yet either: he’ll be in New York playing a show at the Delancy this week and soon after that in Chicago! Read the whole article on Emily HERE!

Emily’s personal and incredibly educational writings were also praised on Recovering Lazyholic, a webpage that encourages you to get up and make something yet simultaneously makes you stay in front of the screen reading about all the cool stuff on the site itself. It’s a brilliant catch 22. Erin from Recovering Lazyholic was the radiant mind behind the art for the Neiliyo Game Night slap bracelets, so we have a lot of respect for her. Emily’s food writing getting co-signed by Recovering Lazyholic is a awesome stamp of approval. Read the whole thing HERE.

Keep up with Emily’s sustainable food-centric musings HERE.

explains it all is out there

April 29, 2010

The smoke has finally cleared from the big DJ Car Stereo (Wars) release party and we are finally coming up for air. Everyone that came thru the door was treated to a complimentary one of a kind CD as well as LCD Soundsystem songs played live by All My Friends, a sweaty set from Neiliyo and the bangers of Hot Britches! The whole evening was made great in part by the free lager from our friends at Brooklyn Brewery, the hard work of the Beauty Bar staff and lest we forget the HUGE help in promotion we got from some of the best online resources around : Austinist, Lamebook, and DO512! Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who came out to take part in the big event with us! We hope you had as much fun as we did!

If you would like to download the album, feel free to give a donation of any amount (it ALL helps!)- OR if you would like your own unique hand puff painted physical copy of the record- all you have to do is pay for shipping and handling! The choice is yours! More information on both HERE.

UloveI was out on the town Friday night and caught a lot of the shenanigans on film. Check out all of the action HERE.

back again

April 20, 2010

We are getting more excited by the day about this Friday’s big release of the new DJ Car Stereo (Wars) album Explains it All! It’s going down at the Beauty Bar with free Brooklyn Lager and plenty more surprises when the doors open at 9pm.

The bill reads like a line of up of Austin All-Stars, featuring LCD Soundsystem tribute band  All My Friends (10pm), recent Artifact Workshop alumni and one-man electro wonder Neiliyo (11pm), and an opening DJ set by  Hot Britches! (11:40).

Everyone thru the door that evening will walk away with a free hand (puff) painted copy of the new CD so the digital pop culture explosion doesn’t have to stop when the bar closes. We double dare you to name all the snippets of music on Explains it All.

The show is sponsored in part by  Austinist, Lamebook, DO512, and  Brooklyn Brewery.

Please download on of our favorite tracks from the album “Whoah Dude,”

guess who’s back

April 10, 2010

It has been an exciting and busy chunk of time for Artifact Workshop the past several months. We put out a soapbox full of boom-bap with CUSTODIAN in November, a slap bracelet full of electro-fun(k) with Neiliyo in February and now we are pleased to announce our fifth overall release will be coming  from DJ Car Stereo (Wars)! The AW launch party back in August of 2007 doubled as the release party for the first DJ CS(W) release the Bandit, a record that garnered attention from Absolute Punk, Gorilla Vs. Bear, StereoGum and MORE. We are currently working hard on making the next installment in the mashup artist’s discography as great as it can possibly be; more details to come but know this for now: It will be titled Explains it All, and will have an epic release party at the Beauty Bar in Austin TX April 23rd with live performances by Neiliyo, the nation’s premiere LCD Sound System tribute band All My Friends, Hot Britches, and of course DJ CS(W)! Stay tuned and mark those calendars now!

game night release recap vid!

March 12, 2010

The time is right. The leaves are falling. Shorts are starting to be warn. Yes, it’s spring in Austin. On February 27th 2010 we hosted the release party for Neiliyo’s Game Night at Club DeVille and as if photographic evidence wasn’t enough to prove that it was an insane blast- now we have video. Behold:

The entire EP came as a digital download on a slap bracelet the night of the show and we still have a FEW that we’ll be passing out here and there at the SXSW music festival but if you don’t want to risk running into us in a free beer line, head over to iTunes and pick it up! It is less than 5 dollars and provides a milli in listening value.

Huge thanks to Leah Ross for her work on the video!

neiliyo & the new sincerity

March 06, 2010

Neiliyo recently gave a candid and graphic interview with the Onion’s AV Club where he addressed the haters, his work ethic and a ton more. Read the whole thing HERE. This is highly recommended, especially if you like butter metaphors. Trust us.   Here is an excerpt:

“[Laughs.] Yeah, if you have to call it something, call it “electro-fun” or “hyper-core.” It’s full-on personality. It’s like reading a blog in real time—it’s interactive music. I want to push people’s buttons and give them a new experience, and be a communicator as opposed to a musician. I’m a musical communicator. [Laughs.]”

A TON of great photos from the release show have been posted by the Peen Scene! Check them all out HERE!

Neiliyo’s Game Night is available on iTunes HERE.

game night thanks!

February 28, 2010

Good gosh, people. Thank you all so much for the amazing energy and sportsmanship you demonstrated at Neiliyo’s Game Night last night. We are awestruck by your enthusiasm and the fun you brought.

We want to take time to thank all the people that made it happen. The staff of Club Deville was so accommodating in letting us turn their bar into a playground….a playground with free-flowing whiskey. Fizzy Dino Pop got us going with wild projections and funky sound. Team Fabrication proved they are some of the hardest working djs out there by keeping us dancing and smiling all night. Our new friends over at 512 Unscripted provided great coverage for the event. And we wouldn’t dream of throwing a shindig like this without our friend Leah Ross there to document it all. We also are excited that Jen from Peen Scene turned out to photograph the shenanigans. Stay tuned…as photos and footage start rolling in, we’ll keep you posted!

Of course, we can’t forget the man of the hour. Neiliyo brought the freaking house down. There was never a doubt that Neiliyo was the man to pull an event like this off, and he did not disappoint. People danced (and hop scotched!) their asses off, sweat poured, bottles were spun, and an evening of memories was made. We wish we could accurately describe the heart and sincerity of last night’s performance, but words wouldn’t do it justice. Neiliyo, we salute you!

The biggest thanks of all goes out to all of you that came out and got your game on. Remember to download your EP (using your secret slap-bracelet link) ASAP- the link will not work forever!

It was magical to see this idea come to life. Thank you all for your continued support.
