DJ CS(W) gear & clothes stolen?!

May 01, 2011

UPDATE!! In under 24 hours, we met our internal goal to help get Chris back on his feet in Brooklyn!  You are all amazing and generous.  THANK YOU INTERNET!

Part of the thing we love about running a small record label is having the opportunity to work with our friends. Not to sound like a gushy unprofessional, but to tell you the truth, we look at the Artifact Workshop bands as part of a big ol’ family of talent and creativity. One of our own could use some help…

Artifact Workshop artist DJ Car Stereo (Wars) has had a run of bad luck. After a great set at SXSW (and a bit of Austin frolicking), Chris returned to New York on April 31st only to have his truck broken into and all his DJ equipment stolen. Not only that, but the jackholes also took two suitcases containing  all his clothes. The good news, according to Chris, is that they didn’t steal the two cases of Shiner Bock he brought up with him.

So not only are these thieves severe douche bags, but they also HATE TEXAS!

If you are in any position to help out your favorite DJ, our best buddy, and an all around good dude, please consider making a donation. Every penny will go straight to Chris to help him get back on his feet after those mean guys jerked up his return to NY. As added incentive we will also mail you a small random offering from our collection of sundries. It won’t be much, but it will be something as a token of our appreciation and EVERYONE likes getting something random in the mail!

CLICK HERE TO DONATE TO A FUND TO HELP CHRIS REPLACE HIS GEAR. Just click DONATE HERE and let PayPal walk you thru the rest!

And while you’re there, download his albums so you can have a good karma dance party.

Thank you in advance for being super awesome!

runaway success

July 26, 2010

DJ Car Stereo (Wars) recently got praised for the latest Artifact Workshop release Explains it All by Austin 360!. The review refers to the record (plug: limited edition hand-puff-painted physical copy available only for the cost of shipping or for free download- donations QUITE appreciated!) as “a runaway success”!

Writer Patrick Caldwell goes on to point out that the record “acts as a passionate love letter to popular music likely to trigger at least a few dozen nostalgic remembrances.” Double true!

like slam

June 15, 2010

DJ Car Stereo (Wars) is leaving the bagels and pizza by the slice of Brooklyn behind and returning to Austin for migas and BBQ this weekend as he plays at the Beauty Bar on Saturday the 19th and then again on Sunday the 20th at the Mohawk for a big Austin Music Foundation shin dig.

Recently – the new album Explains it All was featured on Say It Like Slam who hypothesized: “ that mashup mixtapes are the best workout albums. If done correctly, they are a seamless hour of party music. And if you’re anything like me, you need something upbeat to keep you going between the 2nd and 3rd mile of your run! Another (awesome) mixtape to join the ranks of Girl Talk, DJ AM and Mochi Beats is DJ Car Stereo (Wars)!

We were VERY pleased that DayBowBow named DJ Car Stereo (Wars) track Whoa Dude their track of the day recently! Here’s an exert:

“the track/album is going to make its way on to the speakers at more than a few parties this spring. Really you can’t give a DJ a bigger compliment.”

We are giddy about the opening audio quote on this recap from an anonymous attendee at the DJ Car Stereo (Wars) CD release for Explains it All!

“I love Car Stereo Wars. I listen to about everything and I really love how everything is mixes together. The mashup is what it’s about. It’s the new style of music. It’s kind of like listening to a really good mixtape.”

Too kind! Too kind!  We owe that relic of the evening to the hard-working folks over at  512 Unscripted! You may have remembered that they were kind enough to come out to our last release party we hosted in February for Neiliyo!

explains it all is out there

April 29, 2010

The smoke has finally cleared from the big DJ Car Stereo (Wars) release party and we are finally coming up for air. Everyone that came thru the door was treated to a complimentary one of a kind CD as well as LCD Soundsystem songs played live by All My Friends, a sweaty set from Neiliyo and the bangers of Hot Britches! The whole evening was made great in part by the free lager from our friends at Brooklyn Brewery, the hard work of the Beauty Bar staff and lest we forget the HUGE help in promotion we got from some of the best online resources around : Austinist, Lamebook, and DO512! Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who came out to take part in the big event with us! We hope you had as much fun as we did!

If you would like to download the album, feel free to give a donation of any amount (it ALL helps!)- OR if you would like your own unique hand puff painted physical copy of the record- all you have to do is pay for shipping and handling! The choice is yours! More information on both HERE.

back again

April 20, 2010

We are getting more excited by the day about this Friday’s big release of the new DJ Car Stereo (Wars) album Explains it All! It’s going down at the Beauty Bar with free Brooklyn Lager and plenty more surprises when the doors open at 9pm.

The bill reads like a line of up of Austin All-Stars, featuring LCD Soundsystem tribute band  All My Friends (10pm), recent Artifact Workshop alumni and one-man electro wonder Neiliyo (11pm), and an opening DJ set by  Hot Britches! (11:40).

Everyone thru the door that evening will walk away with a free hand (puff) painted copy of the new CD so the digital pop culture explosion doesn’t have to stop when the bar closes. We double dare you to name all the snippets of music on Explains it All.

The show is sponsored in part by  Austinist, Lamebook, DO512, and  Brooklyn Brewery.

Please download on of our favorite tracks from the album “Whoah Dude,”

guess who’s back

April 10, 2010

It has been an exciting and busy chunk of time for Artifact Workshop the past several months. We put out a soapbox full of boom-bap with CUSTODIAN in November, a slap bracelet full of electro-fun(k) with Neiliyo in February and now we are pleased to announce our fifth overall release will be coming  from DJ Car Stereo (Wars)! The AW launch party back in August of 2007 doubled as the release party for the first DJ CS(W) release the Bandit, a record that garnered attention from Absolute Punk, Gorilla Vs. Bear, StereoGum and MORE. We are currently working hard on making the next installment in the mashup artist’s discography as great as it can possibly be; more details to come but know this for now: It will be titled Explains it All, and will have an epic release party at the Beauty Bar in Austin TX April 23rd with live performances by Neiliyo, the nation’s premiere LCD Sound System tribute band All My Friends, Hot Britches, and of course DJ CS(W)! Stay tuned and mark those calendars now!

AW artists nominated for awards!

February 22, 2010

The good folks over at Republic of Austin created The Roaries Awards so Austinites could nominate and recognize their favorite local artists. This will come as no shock, but Austinites have seriously good taste! We are so proud that not one but TWO Artifact Workshop artists have been nominated for the Roaries . Neiliyo is up for Best Male Musician, and DJ Car Stereo (Wars) is up for Best DJ. Please cast your votes HERE before February 25th and help these AW guys walk away with the (internet) gold! Congratulations to these hard working musicians. We always knew you were the best; now we have proof.
