Ok, so maybe no one dumped the ashes of their dead best friend on the stage where the Laughing performed like they did for Danzig, but the fact remains that the band played a strong Fun Fun Fun Fest set full of wailing, banging, and a loud tie die shirt that both compliments the direction of their new full length album Fever as well as gives a nod to the stereotypical festival atmosphere of yore.
Austin blogger all-star Ultra 8201 was there to grab some snap shots, you can see the photo to the left and many more on the site HERE!
There was a nice interview with Chris/ DJCar Stereo (Wars) on last week’s Austin American Statesman Blog that you can read HERE!
The Fun Fun Fun Fest set went great thanks in part to the help of Neiliyo who resumed his duties as DJ CS(W) MC after honing the craft in Chicago at Lollapolloza. The Peen Scene was there to document the muddy and sweaty fans getting down. Check out this picture and many more HERE!
There are still copies of the debut DJCS(W) album the Bandit complete with a one of a kind mustache on the cover available for purchase HERE. Impress your friends.
We were proud to see the Laughing on Fox 7 News this morning as they helped pimp Fun Fun fun Fest by rocking the studio with “Runner” the lead track off their self released album Fever.
This is the first television appearance by any Artifact Workshop affiliated artist and we still can’t believe they sounded that “on” at 7:45 am this morning. Watch the embedded video below or check it out on MyFoxAustin.

Less than a week before Fun Fun fun Fest where both the Laughing and DJ Car Stereo (Wars) were invited to do their thing in front of music fans from all over the country. Fans who are more interested in bands that dress like Gallagher and play Metallica songs than cramming into a muddy park to try and catch a glimpse of the Dave Matthews Band.
Catch DJ Car Stereo (Wars) back in Austin from Brooklyn at 4:00 on Sunday over at the Blue stage! Afterwards he will surely be seen catching up on his Tex-Mex. And Catch the Laughing at 12:35 Saturday over at the Orange stage!
The night before the festival, Neiliyo is playing a show (on his birthday mind you) at the Scoot Inn with our friends from Chicago the Hood Internet to kick the weekend’s shenanigans off proper. It is going to be a whirlwind I tell you what. Get ready.
“Seeing Neiliyo in Austin these days is like being in Pittsburgh in 2002 seeing Girl Talk. He’s way ahead of his time, has an unmatched energy and is doing it harder and better than anyone in his genre. If there really is anyone in his genre.”
Also- check out this video of how to dress up as Neiliyo for Halloween. Take the Chewbacca costume back to the store, it’s time to break out the candy paint boat shoes!
Thanks so much for stopping by the site! We are really gearing up for the big CUSTODIAN Ultra-Fresh release November 21st at Birds Barbershop on East 6th. The complicated packaging is really starting to take shape and we can’t be more excited for people to start to hear to EP. If you aren’t careful, the catchy hooks will dig into your brain like a boll weevil. Check out the song that threatens to break into your car in such a bouncy way that it actually seems like an alright statement:
A few weeks back, The Daily Texan- The University of Texas student run newspaper (and close personal freinds of Walter Cronkite)- caught up with Artifact Workshop artist Neiliyo.
Sample hard hitting question/answer:
DT: If you could collaborate with any musician in the world, who would it be?
We are working hard on getting things together for the upcoming release from a brand new artist in the Artifact Workshop family: CUSTODIAN. This involves a lot of generic wool soap scrubber boxes and even more listening to the FANTASTIC EP aptly titled ‘Ultra-Fresh‘. It re-contextualizes both the Blow AND Kurtis Blow in an amazing way. We can’t wait to get the packaging completed so you can check it out, and of course, hopefully order them! We have posted a song available now for download that you should absolutely download right this second:
Another big announcement we are ready to formally make: we are putting out aNeiliyorelease early 2010! The world’s biggest elctro/funk/boat shoe enthusiast is putting the finishing touches on project even as I type this. We want to play this one close to the chest for a little longer , but rest assured that this will be far from your standard EP release. Wink/wink, nudge/nudge.
We are living in exciting times here at the AW HQ. Thanks so much for stopping by to see what is happening! We’ll keep you posted as best we can!
The Laughing are back with their first full length record titled FEVER! (Check out that trippy new homepage!)
The past year the Laughing have been slaving away at their crown jewel recording and component piece to their limited edition Artifact Workshop EP Jungle. FEVER was co-produced by frontman Logan Middleton with producer wunderkind Erik Wofford who has propelled the Black Angels, Explosions In The Sky, Okkervil River and Voxtrot into what we know them as today. Fever utilizes a vast array of percussion, bells, dulcimers, ukuleles, synths, clarinets, flutes, blankets of noise and lush harmonies. Not to mention your basic guitars, bass and some of the most innovative and technical drumming out there. The varied instrumentation and ornamental arrangements adorn core song structures and melodies that take cues from the likes of Harry Nilsson, Os Mutantes, Silver Apples, Love, Roxy Music, Sonic Youth, and the 13th Floor Elevators. The new record is self-released but we are still 100% behind them as friends and musical heroes.
Hear their new tracks HERE!

Wyatt Cenac, who proudly stood on stage at this year’s Emmy’s for a ton of awards via the Daily Show with Jon Stewart and who was EXCELLENT in Medicine for Melancholy is putting the whole thing. Big surprise that he has assembled a great lineup. First up, comedian JOHN OLIVER, also of a correspondent on The Daily Show with John Stewart and who is also on one of our new favorite NBC shows Community, is sure to be hilarious. Also we have Hannibal Buress, a comedian and writer for Saturday Night Live and has been featured on Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson, Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, and Comedy Central’s Live At Gotham. He’s also been named Funniest Person in Chicago by Time Out Magazine.
In addition to the comedy, there is going to be jamz layered upon jamz from CAR STEREO (WARS)!
Mash up DJ Chris Rose performs as Car Stereo (Wars) delivering a pop culture buffet of high energy songs, keeping sweaty dancers on their feet. ” A one man Big Bang, building up and breaking down multi-verses with ease” (as described by the Austin American- Statesman) Drawing inspiration from fellow mash up maestros Girl Talk and Diplo, CS(W) full length, The Bandit, is the perfect party starter – available on Artifact Workshop Records! (ahem, grab it HERE)
